Job Summary
Will oversee sales efforts on contractor material sales with a specialized focus on water and wastewater treatment plants. Lead and develop a sales team to exceed company sales and profit goals. Manage pricing parameters, defensive/offensive price actions, and integration of pricing strategy into sales objectives.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
- Directly participate in sales calls with direct reports to strengthen customer relationships and identify growth opportunities. Manage a sales team and territory, including account assignments, project management, estimating, and quote development teams or business segments. Develop direct/indirect reports. Schedule sales meetings and events with internal teams, vendors, and prospective accounts to bid on jobs and secure new business. Forecast and meet sales targets for assigned teams.
- Communicate and negotiate special pricing and product availability with top regional vendors.
- Train and assist management on sales procedures.
- Develop and maintain business relationships. Plan customer visits to cultivate relationships, deliver presentations, offer innovative programs, and communicate plans.
- Analyze sales and operational reports to identify opportunities and implement initiatives to address deficiencies.
- Develop sales team and territories, manage account assignments, project management, estimating, and quote development teams. Plan, forecast, and set monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and profit goals for national, regional, and local sales teams.
- Negotiate national contracts and programs aligned with industry management goals. Communicate and negotiate special pricing and product availability with top vendors as needed.
- Manage selling and customer service activities, implementing sales and customer retention programs to optimize performance, profitability, and satisfaction. Report on sales, competitor pricing, and activity.
- Ensure sales associates perform account prospecting. Regularly assess team performance, reassign accounts to maximize revenue, conduct ride-alongs, and work with the team to call on active and prospective customers. Train, motivate, and coach sales associates in effective selling strategies and techniques.
- Conduct ongoing recruitment and interviewing to acquire talent supporting business objectives. Responsible for succession planning.

- Manages a group or team of professional contributors and/or support staff.
Work Environment
- Located in a comfortable indoor environment. Any unpleasant conditions are infrequent and minimal.
- Typically requires frequent overnight travel.
- Periods are spent standing or sitting with some movement; occasionally may need to stoop or lift light materials or equipment (less than 8 pounds).
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must pass pre-employment assessments if applicable.
Education and Experience
- Typically requires a BS/BA in a related discipline.
- Generally, 7+ years of relevant experience. Certification may be required. An advanced degree may offset less experience in some disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years in the waterworks industry.
- 5+ years outside sales experience.
- 2+ years managing area/regional sales managers.
- 2+ years overseeing multiple states and managing 3+ outside sales reps within the treatment plant segment of waterworks.
- 2+ years managing project managers and estimating managers.
- Strong background in sales management within wholesale distribution.
- Sound industry and product knowledge.
- Experience with technical treatment plant specifications.
Remote locations include California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, and Sacramento, CA.
