Job description

Cornerstone Advisors is a leading advisory and technology consulting firm serving financial institutions. Backed by Veritas Capital—a technology-focused investor with more than $54 billion in assets under management, Cornerstone operates in a performance-driven, growth-oriented environment centered on strategic expansion, operational excellence, and meaningful client impact.

For more than 20 years, Cornerstone has delivered gritty insights, bold strategies, and data-driven solutions that help community banks, regional banks, credit unions, and fintechs compete and thrive in a rapidly evolving financial services landscape. Our expertise spans technology selection and implementation, contract negotiations, performance improvement, vendor management, strategic planning, digital transformation, and M&A advisory, all powered by proprietary research, benchmarking data, and deep industry expertise.

Cornerstone Advisors is seeking an experienced and strategic Treasury & Payments Advisory leader to support community banks and credit unions as they modernize commercial banking, treasury services, and payments strategies. This is a highly consultative, client-facing role focused on advising financial institutions on growth strategy, treasury product development, commercial client experience, operational effectiveness, and payments modernization initiatives.

Unlike traditional treasury management roles within a financial institution, this position is centered on strategic advisory and executive engagement rather than day-to-day treasury operations or bank cash management administration. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in treasury services and commercial payments, combined with the ability to advise executive teams, lead complex client engagements, identify growth opportunities, and deliver actionable recommendations tailored to the unique needs of smaller financial institutions.

This individual will work closely with bank and credit union executives to improve treasury management offerings, strengthen commercial relationships, modernize payment capabilities, optimize service delivery models, and help institutions compete more effectively in an increasingly digital and competitive marketplace.

Key Responsibilities
Client Advisory & Engagement Leadership
  • Lead strategic consulting engagements for community banks, regional banks, and credit unions focused on treasury management, commercial banking, and payments modernization initiatives
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership teams, including CEOs, COOs, Heads of Treasury Management, Commercial Banking leaders, and Payments executives
  • Advise clients on treasury management product strategy, pricing optimization, portfolio growth, sales effectiveness, and client experience improvements
  • Assess and enhance treasury management and commercial banking service models, onboarding processes, operational workflows, and organizational structure
  • Provide strategic guidance on commercial payments modernization, including ACH, wire, RTP, FedNow, integrated receivables, embedded payments, and digital treasury capabilities
  • Help financial institutions identify competitive opportunities to better serve small business and commercial clients in their local markets
  • Deliver data-driven recommendations utilizing Cornerstone Advisors’ proprietary research, benchmarking, and industry intelligence
  • Facilitate executive workshops, strategic planning sessions, and client presentations with senior stakeholders
Business Development & Relationship Management
  • Develop and expand trusted relationships with bank and credit union executives and industry partners
  • Identify new advisory opportunities within existing and prospective client organizations
  • Support business development efforts through proposal creation, prospect meetings, industry networking, and thought leadership initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal leadership and practice teams to expand Cornerstone’s treasury and payments advisory presence within the community financial institution market
  • Represent the firm at industry conferences, association events, webinars, and client forums
Thought Leadership & Industry Expertise
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in treasury management, commercial payments, and financial institution strategy
  • Contribute to industry research, white papers, webinars, conference presentations, and executive roundtables
  • Maintain deep awareness of evolving trends impacting community financial institutions, including real-time payments, embedded finance, fintech partnerships, treasury digitization, and commercial client expectations
  • Monitor regulatory, competitive, and technology developments affecting treasury services and payments ecosystems
  • Mentor junior consultants and contribute to the development of internal treasury and payments advisory capabilities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with strategy, technology, digital banking, core transformation, and M&A advisory teams
  • Contribute to a collaborative, entrepreneurial, and client-centric culture focused on delivering measurable outcomes for clients
Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in treasury management, commercial banking, payments, or financial institution consulting
  • Demonstrated expertise working with or advising community banks and/or credit unions
  • Strong knowledge of treasury management products and services, including commercial deposits, receivables, payables, liquidity tools, and commercial payment solutions
  • Deep understanding of payments modernization, including ACH, wires, RTP, FedNow, card-based payments, and emerging digital payment technologies
  • Proven success leading client-facing engagements, strategic initiatives, or advisory relationships with executive stakeholders
  • Experience presenting to executive leadership teams and facilitating strategic discussions
  • Strong business development, relationship management, and consultative sales skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities
  • Ability to translate complex industry trends into actionable business recommendations for financial institutions
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior consulting experience serving financial institutions, particularly community banks or credit unions
  • Experience advising financial institutions on treasury management growth strategies, product development, pricing, or commercial banking transformation
  • Knowledge of fintech partnerships, embedded banking/payment solutions, and treasury technology ecosystems
  • Experience with commercial banking analytics, benchmarking, or strategic planning initiatives
  • Familiarity with core banking platforms, treasury management systems, and digital banking technologies commonly used by community financial institutions
  • MBA or advanced degree in business, finance, or related field preferred
  • Industry certifications such as Certified Treasury Professional (CTP), Accredited ACH Professional (AAP), or similar credentials preferred
  • Established network within the banking, payments, or credit union industries strongly preferred
What We Offer

  • A visible leadership role within a growing, private equity-backed advisory firm
  • Collaborative and entrepreneurial culture focused on innovation, client success, and measurable results
  • Competitive compensation structure with performance-based incentives
  • Professional growth, thought leadership, and leadership development opportunities
  • Ability to shape the future of treasury management and payments strategy for community financial institutions
