The Iowa Treasurer of State is seeking an investment professional to join its Investment Division as a Treasury Investment Officer 2.
The Treasurer serves as the State’s banker and is responsible for the investment and cash management of billions of dollars in public funds. The Office also plays an important governance and oversight role in Iowa’s public retirement systems.
This position offers the opportunity to apply institutional investment expertise in public service. The successful candidate will work closely with the Treasury leadership and have meaningful exposure to asset allocation, portfolio strategy, manager oversight, pension investments, liquidity management, financial markets, and investment governance.
The position is particularly well suited for an investment professional who enjoys analyzing complex financial information, working with sophisticated institutional investors and asset managers, and translating that work into actionable recommendations for senior decision-makers.
The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, analytical, collaborative, and motivated by public service. We are looking for someone who can do more than compile investment data—the successful candidate should be able to understand what the data means, identify emerging issues, ask thoughtful questions, and help senior leadership make informed decisions.
Competitive candidates will have experience or demonstrated knowledge in areas such as:
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. The successful candidate must be comfortable interacting with investment professionals and preparing materials for the State Treasurer, Deputy Treasurers, pension boards, legislators, and other stakeholders.
This isn’t an investment job where success is measured only by a portfolio’s return.
The work of the Treasurer’s Office helps protect public resources, maintain the State’s financial strength, and safeguard retirement systems relied upon by hundreds of thousands of Iowans.
The position also provides exposure that can be difficult to find elsewhere. You will work with experienced public investment professionals, nationally recognized investment managers and consultants, major financial institutions, and senior State decision-makers while developing a broad understanding of institutional investing and public finance.
We are looking for someone who wants to bring strong investment skills to public service—and continue developing those skills while helping protect Iowa’s financial future.
The Iowa Treasurer’s Office offers a collaborative professional environment with an emphasis on public service, professional development, and work-life balance. Full-time State employees receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
