Job Description

This role focuses on fitting and welding large industrial piping and structural steel to ASME Section IX standards in support of high-performance data center construction. You will contribute directly to the buildout of next-generation AI supercomputing infrastructure, working closely with mechanical, structural, electrical, and operations teams from initial construction through system turnover.

Responsibilities
  • Fit, tack, and weld large-bore industrial piping and structural steel, including pipe racks, platforms, supports, skids, and related assemblies, in accordance with drawings and ASME Section IX welding procedure specifications (WPS).
  • Lay out, cut, bevel, grind, and align joints, checking fit-up, root opening, and reinforcement before and after welding to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.
  • Read and interpret isometric, spool, and structural drawings, and work to weld maps, heat numbers, and rod-control or continuity requirements where applicable.
  • Support installation and hanging of strut, supports, hangers, and structural members, and assist with equipment setting and bolt-up as needed to complete weld packages.
  • Stage, move, and inventory pipe, fittings, structural members, filler metal, and tools, maintaining organized laydown yards and orderly work areas.
  • Open and close work areas each shift, including setting up protection, performing fire watch activities, managing hot-work permits, removing debris, segregating scrap, and resetting the area so the next crew can start work immediately.
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), personal protective equipment (PPE), hot-work, and site safety rules, and refrain from welding on live or unpurged systems without proper authorization.
  • Report damaged materials, rejected welds, unsafe conditions, and drawing conflicts promptly to ensure issues are addressed quickly and safely.
  • Support punch-list completion, weld repair work, and non-destructive examination (NDE) hold-point activities through system turnover.
Essential Skills
  • Journey-level industrial construction welding experience, typically 3+ years welding large industrial piping and/or structural steel, completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship, or equivalent military experience.
  • Hands-on experience with GTAW (TIG) on stainless steel and/or SMAW (stick) on carbon steel.
  • Current ASME Section IX qualification (such as 6G) in GTAW on stainless and/or SMAW on carbon, or the ability to pass a pre-employment weld test to ASME Section IX in the processes and positions used on site.
  • AWS D1.1 structural welding qualification or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret isometric, spool, and structural drawings accurately.
  • Ability to use welding machines, torches, grinders, and related hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong safety mindset with a consistent willingness to follow site procedures, including hot-work permits and lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements.
  • Experience welding large-bore process, mechanical, or utility piping and heavy structural members.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working on data center, industrial, or heavy-civil construction sites.
  • Willingness to work at heights and outdoors on a dynamic data center construction site.
  • Familiarity with weld maps, heat numbers, and rod-control or continuity tracking processes.
  • Ability to maintain organized work areas, laydown yards, and material inventories.
  • Attention to detail in joint preparation, fit-up verification, and weld quality checks.
