Role Summary

Based in Kansas City, MO, this is a full-time traveling position. The role requires regular travel to various jobsites across the Midwest region. Candidates should be comfortable with frequent travel and extended time on location as project needs dictate.

The Superintendent 1 will help plan, manage, and execute all aspects of assigned projects. Responsibilities include managing materials and equipment, assisting with people management, ensuring documentation is complete, and meeting project goals for timely and profitable completion. All activities support JE Dunn's strategy, vision, and values.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core
  • Lead safety culture and promote an injury-free environment, investigating incidents and retraining staff as needed.
  • Manage subcontractors and organize overall job workflow.
  • Oversee company staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and programs like Safety, Quality, and EEOC.
  • Develop work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work.
  • Coordinate project site care, custody, and control.
  • Lead meetings including daily standups and weekly trade meetings.
  • Participate in progress and project OAC meetings.
  • Manage project schedule in collaboration with the Project Manager.
  • Track and monitor project budget and costs using project management systems.
  • Communicate key project information to all stakeholders.
  • Maintain project documentation and logs.
  • Approve and record cost information, complete reports, and track project progress.
  • Manage material and equipment needs.
  • Support procurement processes and assist in selecting tools and equipment.
  • Manage timecard approval for accurate reporting.
  • Ensure quality compliance through specifications and QA/QC processes.
  • Support project closeouts and coordinate with stakeholders.
  • Participate in project pursuit and planning processes.
  • Establish field staffing and manage project changes in collaboration with project management.
  • Participate in negotiations and project review meetings.
  • Lead talent recruitment efforts.
  • Promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, adhering to JE Dunn policies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of construction experience.
  • At least 1 year of field supervision experience.
Working Environment
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Travel and possible relocation required.
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours.
  • Physical activities include standing, walking, climbing, and reaching.
