Job description

Are you looking for more than just a job — a place where your ideas matter, your growth is invested in, and you're part of a company that still feels like family? At Stout, we've built a growing construction company without losing sight of where we started.

If that sounds like the kind of team you want to join, we'd love to talk with you.

As a Traveling Superintendent at Stout, you'll take true ownership of your projects — wherever they take you. Backed by a dedicated mentor in the field and a strong team in the office, you'll carry the primary responsibility for project success. Along the way, you'll sharpen your skills, build relationships built on trust, and experience the reward of seeing a project through from start to finish — one that will stand for years to come. At Stout, we work hard to exceed expectations, for our customers and for our people.

We're looking for someone who is driven to win yet humbly confident, with the calm resolve to lead, solve problems, and adjust as conditions change on the ground.

LIFE ON THE ROAD, MADE EASIER

We know traveling for work isn't easy, and it isn't the right fit for everyone. That's why Stout works hard to make life on the road as comfortable as possible:

  • Paid travel home twice a month — or we'll fly a loved one out to see you instead.
  • All travel and lodging expenses covered, plus a daily meal per diem.
  • A true lifeline on the job: frequent, ongoing contact with a mentor/coach (your Field Director), in addition to your project team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:
  • You'll report to a Field Director, who serves as your mentor, coach, and advocate — wherever your project takes you.
  • Your core responsibility is keeping the project moving: maintaining a 3-week schedule, holding your team accountable to it, and keeping the customer and stakeholders informed.
  • Safety comes first, always. You'll complete OSHA 30, keep the jobsite safe, and hold others accountable to the same standard.
  • You should be ready to take on most core superintendent responsibilities within your first 30 days on the job.
  • Plan, run, and document SUBCONTRACTOR COORDINATION MEETINGS.
  • Keep a THREE-WEEK SCHEDULE aligned with the project's master schedule, through ongoing communication and negotiation with subcontractors.
  • Plan, run, and document PRE-INSTALL MEETINGS.
  • Own the full RFI process, from creation through resolution.
  • Help the project team prioritize SUBMITTALS and use them to safeguard quality.
  • Create and manage OBSERVATIONS to correct housekeeping, safety, and quality issues.
  • Read and apply construction DRAWINGS to perform layouts.
  • Keep detailed logs of job PHOTOS and PHONE CALLS.
  • Build, manage, and close out a PUNCH LIST to carry the project to completion.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

Success in this role calls for an observant, curious, natural leader — someone who takes time each day to plan thoughtfully and think ahead. You'll often need to use good judgment to make quick calls on the spot, or know when to loop in the team. Sincerity, accountability, and equity should come naturally to you.

The right candidate always advocates for the customer, backed by strong time-management and communication skills.

Because this role travels, you're someone who takes it in stride — comfortable adapting to new project sites, new teams, and new surroundings, and ready to make the most of it.

REQUIRED:
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • 5+ years' experience as a commercial construction superintendent.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word).
  • Experience with, or the ability to quickly learn, Procore.
  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to pass a drug test and background check.
