Traveling HV Field Tech – Transformer & Switchgear Testing

Job summary

Shermco is seeking Field Service Test Technicians to inspect, test, troubleshoot, and start-up HV/MV/LV electrical systems at customer sites across the region. You will collect data, perform transformer and relay testing, and support emergency response as needed.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of relevant experience, EPC/EE education, and NETA or electrician credentials, with strong safety discipline and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in EPC or EE degree from ABET college or military training equivalent.
• NETA Certification (III or IV) or Electrician license preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in switchgear testing and troubleshooting.
• Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Excel; PowerDB is a plus.
• Must pass drug test, background check, and maintain safe work practices.
• Ability to travel daily locally/regionally and occasional overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, start-up and collect data on HV/MV/LV systems.
• Perform instrument transformer tests and power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, insulation tests).
• Calibrate relays (electro-mechanical and solid-state) and test switchgear and circuit breakers.
• Cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot) and automatic transfer switch troubleshooting.
• Provide safe work practices and respond to emergencies as needed.
