Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks a Contractor in Charge in Logan, UT to oversee construction, maintenance, and safety compliance for freight railroads and transit systems. The CIC will ensure safe work practices within railroad rights-of-way and coordinate with rail staff.

The role requires strong communication, field safety focus, and willingness to travel 50–85% of the time. A valid driver's license and a high school diploma are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid Driver's License is required.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company, preferably in MOW/TY&E.
• Must complete all required federal, client, and company-specific training.

Responsibilities

• Safety-focused contractor overseeing worksite safety and providing flagging services as needed.
• Conducts job briefings and ensures compliance with FRA regulations (49 CFR 214).
• Monitors track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities to keep personnel clear of tracks and equipment.
• Communicates with train dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors to coordinate train movements and permissions.
• Documents all activities including briefings, incident reports, daily logs, and forms for management and regulators.
• Enforces Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
