Job description

General Summary

TEAM is a global best-in-class provider of mechanical services to industrial sites and manufacturing facilities. This position is part of TEAM's Traveling Technician Group, known as the Flying Squad: an elite group of technicians dispatched across the country to perform higher-level work where it is needed. The Flying Squad operates within TEAM's MBV group, which spans Field Machining Services, Technical Bolting Services, and Vapor Barrier Services.

The L3 Field Machinist is qualified at the FMS Level III certification (per TRN-1205.1) and serves as a lead technician on job sites. The role covers the full range of portable machine tool operations performed on-site at client facilities, including the largest and most complex applications: flange facing over 60" OD, drilling and tapping over 2", cut and bevel of any pipe size, and special preparations. The technician sets up and operates a wide variety of portable machine tools to perform on-site machining and repairs in accordance with approved site and company procedures.

The technician is accountable for the complete job cycle: reviewing the client scope, complying with all safety procedures and job documentation, verifying equipment and tooling before mobilizing, and meeting or exceeding client quality and production expectations. Day-to-day scheduling, dispatch, and issue resolution are coordinated through the MBV scheduler. The technician is responsible for continuous training and development to maintain certification and advance into specialty certifications (C1-C12) as required.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by adhering to company and customer safety standards, legal regulations, and proper use of safety procedures and equipment; alert others to potential hazards.
  • Set up and operate portable machine tools to perform field machining services at client sites, including but not limited to: pipe cutting and beveling (any size, special preparations); flange resurfacing (including over 60" OD); drilling and tapping (including over 2"); milling of motor and pump bases; line boring; keyway cutting; shaft turning; and metal disintegration bolt removal.
  • Serve as lead technician on job sites, directing the work of technicians of equal or lesser certification.
  • Review client job scope and verify all equipment and tooling prior to mobilizing to the job site.
  • Document all field machining service activities as required.
  • Interact with customers in a professional manner.
  • Maintain FMS Level III certification and pursue additional training and specialty certifications to continuously improve skill and competence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with TEAM's Core Values.
Job Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical school or relevant technical training preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of field machining experience in an industrial setting, with demonstrated competence at FMS Level III scope; must meet the requirements for FMS Level III certification under TRN-1205.1.

  • Current HAZWOPER training certificate preferred.
  • Valid TWIC card preferred.
  • RSO (Refinery Safety Overview) preferred.
  • Willing and able to meet the extensive travel requirements of the position.
Work Conditions
  • Position is not based out of a branch or site location; technicians are dispatched from their home area.
  • Work consists primarily of multi-week, out-of-town assignments, moving from job to job, with occasional work local to the home area. Travel by commercial flight, rental car, and driving as required.
  • Field duties require indoor and outdoor work in industrial plant environments, around production machinery with extreme noise levels, and in varying climates; may work at more than one job site in a day.
