Role Overview

The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform patient care, office, and laboratory duties, preparing patients for examinations and assisting dental professionals in providing treatment. They must collaborate effectively with co-workers, patients, and front office staff, sharing ideas constructively and positively. A successful dental assistant demonstrates active listening, keeps commitments, communicates progress, and addresses problems constructively to find practical solutions.

Specialty Dental Assistants

If assigned within specialties such as Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatric Dentistry, they primarily support clinicians within those areas and may require additional training.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform functions according to state-specific Dental Auxiliaries regulations.
  2. Engage actively in PPE, focusing on patient-centered care.
  3. Escort patients and introduce them to team members as appropriate.
  4. Coordinate with the front and back office teams for smooth scheduling.
  5. Maintain a clean, sterile, and welcoming environment.
  6. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment per infection control guidelines.
  7. Prepare patients and assist the dentist to ensure efficient, quality care.
  8. Complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures efficiently as directed.
  9. Prepare tray setups and replenish supplies to support efficient procedures.
  10. Keep the patient’s mouth dry and clear using suction devices.
  11. Instruct patients on postoperative and oral health care as directed.
  12. Document patient information and clinician notes accurately in the digital chart.
  13. Support patient care by presenting treatment records, consents, and health histories.
  14. Maintain equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
  15. Work with the Lead Dental Assistant to ensure supplies are available.
  16. Learn and operate technology, providing explanations as needed.
  17. Participate in team meetings and daily huddles.
  18. Model company culture, values, and operational standards.
  19. Make decisions aligned with the PDS Brand framework and implement the PPE process.
  20. Maintain professional appearance and demeanor, addressing others respectfully.
  21. Ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or GED, with mandated state training or certification.
  2. Valid licenses or registrations as required by the state.
  3. For Specialty Dental Assistants: Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation.
  4. Travel may be required between multiple offices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or equivalent experience.

  • Effective communication with patients, staff, and vendors.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making under pressure.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency with basic computer software.

Compensation: $21.75 - $30.25/hour
