Job summary

Hi-Way Paving, Inc. is seeking a surveyor to support major paving projects across highways and airfields. This role requires travel between Charlotte, NC and Nashville, TN, with additional sites as needed.

You will conduct surveying on roadways and airfields, develop methods, operate GPS and TPS tools, and produce detailed maps. You will collaborate with grading crews and report to the Survey and Machine Control Manager, contributing to safety and accuracy on site.

Qualifications

• 0–3 years of surveyor experience in construction is required.
• Familiarity with GPS and TPS is preferred but not required; training provided.
• Certifications are required for active construction sites at project locations.
• Strong math and problem-solving skills, high attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to work nights and weekends as project needs dictate.
• Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (airport, military).
• Must be 18+ and have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Conduct surveying activities on roadways, airfields, airports, and military bases.
• Develop and implement survey methods that meet project requirements.
• Operate surveying instruments to measure land features including latitude, longitude, and elevations.
• Produce maps, sketches, and charts documenting survey results.
• Collaborate with grading and paving crews to support field operations.
• Provide guidance to other field staff as needed.
• Present survey findings to the Survey and Machine Control Manager and stakeholders.
• Work with engineers and project leaders to align survey data with design plans.
• Assist Superintendents and Project Managers with other operational duties.
