Experience in IMC/stepdown, telemetry, and post-surgical care is essential. Travel incumbents will have Cerner EMR experience and are expected to cover major holidays and float when needed.

Responsibilities

• Care for telemetry, neuro stepdown, cardiac, post-surgical, neuro, and trauma patients.
• Night shift, 3x12 or 4x12 hours; every other weekend required.
• Float within hospital and affiliate hospitals as needed.
• Cerner EMR use; Cerner experience preferred.
• Provide comprehensive care for stepdown patients in complex cardiac, neuro, and surgical cases.
• Participate in major holiday coverage and 2 of 3 major holidays.

Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an IMC Stepdown position requiring an active IL license, BLS, and NIHSS certification with strong telemetry and neuro stepdown skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Intermediate Care (IMC) Stepdown unit of an acute care, Level I trauma, Magnet teaching hospital
• Patient population includes telemetry, neuro stepdown, cardiac, post-surgical, neuro, orthopedic trauma, plastic surgery, and renal cases
• Shift is night, 3x12 or 4x12 hours (1845-0715), with every other weekend required
• Floating within hospital and to affiliate hospitals is required
• Block scheduling may be discussed with manager
• Cerner EMR is used, and Cerner experience is preferred
• Responsibilities include comprehensive care of stepdown patients, including managing complex cardiac, neuro, surgical, respiratory, and trauma cases
• Must participate in major holiday coverage, working at least 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of non-holiday requested time off may be approved automatically; more requires facility approval
• Dress code allows any solid color scrubs
• No on-call required
• No first-time travelers accepted
• Locals are accepted with no radius restriction
• Any permanent or PRN employee must have a 12-month separation before applying as a traveler
• Free parking is available with a permit
• Some online modules for orientation must be completed virtually on the first day

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at the time of application
• Minimum 1 year of recent IMC/Stepdown, telemetry, or neuro stepdown experience required
• Certifications required: BLS and NIHSS; ACLS preferred
• Required skills include cardiac monitoring and emergency response, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response team use, post-cardiac care, feeding tube management, IV therapy, central and arterial line management, blood product administration, and wound care
• Experience with post-neurosurgical, trauma, ortho, plastic surgery, respiratory, and renal patients is required
• Must be able to perform respiratory management including ventilated patients, CPAP/BIPAP, chest tube management, tracheostomy care, and ABG interpretation
• 18 months of experience required unless otherwise specified by unit
