The role features 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM), a 36-hour minimum weekly schedule, and a flexible rotation. Active BLS and NIHSS required; ACLS preferred; 2+ years in neuroscience or step-down ICU.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years neuroscience or step-down ICU experience.
• Active RN licensure in the state.

Responsibilities

• Care for high-acuity neuroscience patients on a dedicated neuro step-down unit.

Job Summary

Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) Night Shifts 9/21/2026 to 12/21/2026. This position involves providing care to higher acuity neuroscience patients in a dedicated neuro step-down and epilepsy monitoring unit. The RN will care for patients with strokes, seizures, craniotomies, TPA administration, and other neurological conditions, following established protocols and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.Job Details:Schedule: Nights 3, 12-hour shifts from 7:0PM to 7:30 AM, minimum of 36 hours/week. Schedule allows for three consecutive shifts, but flexibility is preferred.Required Qualifications: Valid BLS certification; NIHSS certification required at time of submission; minimum 2 years of neuroscience or step-down ICU experience; licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the state.Preferred Qualifications: Experience with neuro patients including stroke, TPA, seizures, EVDs; experience with titrating titratable drips such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, Insulin.Certifications: BLS and NIHSS are required; ACLS preferred.Additional Information: All RN candidates must have strong neuro experience and NIHSS certification; previous experience in a high-acuity neuroscience environment is preferred. The unit expects nurses to be familiar with monitoring and managing neurological patients, including treatment protocols and titration of certain medications. The unit maintains a 1:3 nurse to patient ratio for Stepdown and 1:5-6 for EMU patients. RT support is available 24/7 with floor vents managed by RT and physicians; RN's are not required to have vent experience. Telemetry monitors are on site but RN's do not need to read strips. The unit operates on a COVID vaccination policy with fully vaccinated status preferred.
