Job Summary

Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) position is located in an acute care setting specializing in intermediate and telemetry care. The role involves providing comprehensive care to a diverse patient population with medical, neuro, and surgical conditions, including trach and ventilator management, titrating infusions, and participating in collaborative patient care activities. The shift is scheduled for 12-hour nights, with a start date of September 14, 2026, and end date of December 14, 2026.

Job Details

Schedule: 12-hour night shifts (0700-1930 or 1900-0730); minimum of 36 hours per week.

Required Qualifications

• Valid active Illinois nursing license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated;
• Bachelor's degree in nursing;
• at least 1 year of RN experience in Step Down, ICU, or Intermediate care;
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification;
• additional ACLS recommended;
• must have ICU/Intermediate experience with a nurse to patient ratio of 3:1 or 2:1;
• experience with trach and vent management, including titrating infusions such as Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and vasopressors;
• proficiency in reading bedside bedside monitors (Phillips monitors) and interpreting ECG strips;
• ability to collaborate with charge nurses and house supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a high-acuity, medical- neuro, neuro surgical, trauma, or general surgical setting; recent practice in a similar patient care environment.

Float Rotation

Float: Float rotation may be required; travel RNs are first to float and may cover ICU or other step down or general medicine units depending on experience.

Additional Information

This role involves working alongside patient care techs, managing complex patient needs including ventilator and trach care, titrations, and multiple drips. The unit requires compliance with hospital orientation protocols, including one day dedicated to Epic and one day for unit-specific orientation. Certifications must be current; must produce a negative drug screen prior to start.
