Job Summary:
Step Down Unit Nurse in an acute care setting is responsible for providing high-quality patient care to individuals with diverse diagnoses, including cardiac dysrhythmias, cerebrovascular accidents, and other complex cases. The role involves managing patient stability, titrating drips such as Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin, and interpreting electronic monitor strips. Approximately 36 hours per week, scheduled during 12-hour night shifts, with weekend rotations, supports a dynamic healthcare environment focused on critical patient needs.

Job Details:

• Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week, with weekends as scheduled.
• Required Qualifications: Valid license to submit; certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS); minimum of 2 years of experience in a step-down or similar acute care unit; willing to wait for license approval.
• Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience with Cerner or EPIC electronic medical records; familiarity with cardiac patient management, including dysrhythmias and cerebrovascular cases; ability to read and interpret electronic monitor strips; comfortable with titrating various drips and working in a high-acuity environment.
• Additional Information: The unit functions as a step-down area with about 28 private beds. Staff may be float to ICU as needed. Orientation includes two shifts with a preceptor. Float to ICU is possible. The unit manages heavy cardiac cases and a mixture of other critical diagnoses. Night charge nurses may have assignments, and the team includes nurse aides during daytime and mid-shift hours. The hospitalist is in-house 24/7, with an ICU intensivist available from 7 AM to 7 PM on designated days.
• Certifications & Experience: The candidate must hold ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
