• Arterial puncture and ABG drawing/interpretation
• Ventilator management including BiPAP/CPAP/SIMV
• Epic/Excellian charting experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• First-time travelers accepted with minimum 1 year ECMO Specialist experience

Responsibilities

Description

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with ECMO Specialist experience for a night shift position in adult critical care at a Magnet, Level III Trauma teaching hospital.

Details

• Respiratory/Neuro Diagnostics unit in a short-term acute care, Magnet-designated, teaching hospital with Level III Trauma status
• Adult critical care patient population, including ECMO, ARDS, aspiration, bronchoscopy, COVID, fresh tracheostomy, and pneumonia cases
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 1830-0700, with occasional day shift coverage as needed
• Works every other weekend
• Will float within the hospital or to an affiliate hospital nearby as needed
• No on-call requirement
• Uses Epic/Excellian for charting

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of RRT experience and 1 year of ECMO Specialist experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, RRT
• State license required if applicable
• Pending license accepted but must be active at start of assignment
• Adult Critical Care setting experience required
• Experience with airway management devices including ET tube/suctioning, extubation, intubation assist, nasal/oral airway placement and suctioning, tracheostomy care/suctioning, and pulmonary hygiene
• Experience administering medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Mucomyst, Nitric Oxide (iNO), Pulmicort, racemic epinephrine, Spiriva, Tobramycin, and Xopenex
• Experience with nebulizer types including cold, hand held, heated, ultrasonic, T-piece, and trach collar
• Experience with oxygen therapy delivery including bag and mask, ET tube, HFNC, portable oxygen tank, protocol-driven ECMO, T-piece, and trach collar
• Arterial puncture and arterial blood gas drawing/interpretation experience required
• Ventilator management experience including BiPAP, CPAP, SIMV, patient transport, troubleshooting high pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
• Epic/Excellian charting experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• First-time travelers accepted with minimum 1 year ECMO Specialist experience

Additional Information

• Serves as an ECMO Specialist providing respiratory care to critically ill adult patients
• Performs chest physiotherapy including vest therapy and sputum specimen collection
• Scrub color is Ceil Blue (provided) or Olive Green (traveler's own)
• Candidates must live more than 100 miles from the facility to be considered
• Returning staff must have a 3-month gap since their last shift worked as perm staff or per diem
• RTO should ideally be no more than 5 days
