Job summary

American Traveler seeks a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit float pool in Washington. WA or compact RN license required, plus BLS, ACLS, NIHSS. Must have PCU/Tele and float pool experience; 24-hour post-CABG/TAVR care experience a plus.

You will float across PCU, Tele, Med-Surg and ED Holding; 12-hour shifts, 36 hours weekly, every-other weekend, no on-call. Epic EMR and support teams enable patient care with efficiency.

Qualifications

• Active WA license or compact license required.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant RN experience.
• PCU/Tele and float pool experience required for first-time traveler consideration.
• Experience with post-CABG/TAVR patient care preferred.
• Epic EMR experience required.

Responsibilities

• Float pool role within a hospital setting across PCU, Tele, MedSurg and ED Holding units.
• Most shifts in the ED Holding area rather than a fixed home unit.
• Care for neuro, trauma, surgical, and medical patients including critical conditions.
• Provide care for post-CABG/TAVR, STEMI, chest pain observation and related cases.
• Maintain hourly rounding, bedside shift reports and accurate documentation.
• Work 12-hour day or night shifts; 36 hours per week with alternate weekends.

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit float pool position requiring PCU/Tele experience and a WA or compact RN license.

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
• Prior PCU/Tele and float pool experience required for first-time traveler consideration
• Experience with 24-hour post-CABG/TAVR patient care required
• Skills required include IV medication titration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, BiPAP management, ostomy care, general drain management, tracheostomy care, chest tube management, and lumbar drain management
• TR bands experience preferred
• Epic EMR experience required

Responsibilities

• Float pool role within a hospital setting, floating within scope of practice to PCU, Tele, MedSurg, and ER Holding units
• Most contract time will likely be spent in the ED Holding area rather than a fixed home unit
• Patient population includes neuro, trauma, surgical, and medical cases such as respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, ortho, and strokes
• Cardiac stepdown and cardiac short stay patients including post-CABG/TAVR, STEMI, fem-pop, pacemaker, ablation, chest pain observation, post-cath, and TR band cases
• Patient ratios are 1:4 on PCU and 1:5-6 on MedSurg
• May float to a second hospital location approximately 2.5 miles away, with advance notice provided when possible
• 12-hour day or night shifts (0700-1930 or 1900-0730)
• 36 hours per week with an every-other-weekend rotation, occasionally back-to-back
• No on-call requirements
• Schedules are built in 3-week increments and provided 7-10 days in advance, with no self-scheduling or guaranteed shift patterns
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
• Support team includes CNA, charge RN without a patient assignment, 24/7 hospitalist coverage, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and on-call cardiac and specialty physicians
• Orientation includes 1 day of general hospital orientation and 1 day (12 hours) of PCU unit orientation
• Traveler telemetry competency required
• Responsibilities include maintaining whiteboards, hourly rounding with documentation, and bedside shift report
• Saline flushes are treated as medication and must not be left at bedside or in scrub pockets
• Two-nurse verification required when wasting controlled medications such as narcotics and benzodiazepines
• Pain must be documented before and after administering pain medication (30 minutes for IV, 1 hour for oral)
• Any solid, professional-colored scrubs are acceptable
• Free parking available in a parking garage
• Up to 5 days of RTO can be approved
• First-time travelers considered with strong PCU/Tele and float pool experience
