Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position at a Level 3 Trauma Center, requiring an active IA or compact RN license and 2+ years of PCU experience.

Night shifts run 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with a 1:4 patient ratio and occasional 1:5. Responsibilities include floating to ED and inpatient areas, holiday coverage, and EMR use in a complex care setting.

Qualifications

• Active IA or Compact RN license.
• 2+ years of PCU experience.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
• Valid driver's license.
• PCU skills checklist.
• Supervisory reference within last two years.

Responsibilities

• PCU unit for post-critical care including CHF, ablation, stroke and sepsis cases.
• Patient ratio 1:4 (up to 1:5).
• Night shift 12-hour shifts 7:00 PM–7:00 AM.
• Every other weekend/holiday rotation.
• Floating to ED and inpatient areas across local campuses.
• No on-call requirements.
• EMR: Epic.
• Work as part of an interdisciplinary PCU team in a Level 3 Trauma Center.
• Holiday coverage including 2 of 3 winter holidays.
• Limited time-off during peak holidays.
• First-time travelers welcome.
• Residents must be ≥50 miles from facility for travel rate.
• UPH employees may have restrictions on trip assignments.

Requirements

• Active RN license (Iowa or Compact)
• 2+ years of PCU experience required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Valid driver's license required
• Skills checklist specific to PCU required
• Supervisory reference/performance evaluation completed within the last two years required

Responsibilities

• PCU unit specializing in post-critical care patients, including CHF, ablation, angiogram, TCAR, EVAR, DKA, stroke, pacemaker, and sepsis cases
• Patient ratio of 1:4, occasionally up to 1:5
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Every other weekend and holiday rotation required
• Floating required to the ED and all inpatient areas, potentially across local campuses
• No on-call requirements
• EMR: Epic
• Work as part of an interdisciplinary team providing clinical care and support to PCU patients in a Level 3 Trauma Center
• Holiday coverage required, including working 2 of the 3 winter holidays (Christmas, New Year's, or Thanksgiving)
• Limited time-off requests permitted during peak holiday periods
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel rate
• Past UnityPoint Health (UPH) employees, whether FTE or PRN float pool, may be restricted from working travel assignments in other UPH markets within 12 months of separation
