Travel RN - Telemetry - Progressive Care Unit
Description
American Traveler is seeking a PCU RN for a 12-hour night shift stepdown assignment requiring an active NE or compact RN license and 2 years of relevant experience.
Details
- Stepdown/PCU unit within an acute care, Level 2 trauma hospital
- 40-bed unit with an average daily census of 24
- Patient ratios of 1:4-5 on both day and night shifts
- Cares for adult patients with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer, and renal failure diagnoses
- RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
- Charge nurse on every shift who also takes a patient assignment
- Nurse aides/PCTs available at a 1:12 ratio
- Uses high flow RT equipment; RNs troubleshoot as needed
- RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (0630-1830/1830-0630 rotation)
- Every other weekend required
- Minimum of 2 holidays worked within the contract timeframe
- Floating required to MedSurg or ICU to care for PCU-acuity patients
- On-call staff must arrive within 30 minutes if called back in
Requirements
- Active RN license (Nebraska or Compact/NLC) required at time of submission; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Must be competent in arterial line management
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; driver's license used to verify permanent address
- Candidates may not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
- Open-book pass/fail exam administered during orientation on Wednesdays; a 90% score is required to continue the assignment
- One day of unit-specific orientation provided
- Navy blue scrub color required
- Blocked scheduling not approved unless limited to weekends only; duo assignments requiring shared or identical schedules not accepted
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO requests will not be approved
- Unit uses overhead and portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners
- Strong focus on patient experience scores, responsiveness, and clear medication communication
- Unit primarily serves Hispanic and Somali patient populations
- Successful candidates are team players who are flexible, adaptable, and demonstrate strong communication skills
