Responsibilities

• Care for Med Surg and Telemetry patients on a night shift stepdown and floor unit.

• Maintain patient safety with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4–1:6.
• Document care in EPIC EMR and coordinate with in-house teams.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med Surg/Telemetry RN for a night shift stepdown and floor unit position requiring 2+ years of experience and drip titration skills.

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Must be able to titrate drips and manage Heparin gtts
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Driver's license address must be outside 50 miles from the facility

Responsibilities

• Acute care Med Surg unit (OBS 6N/6C) with 31 beds across stepdown and floor sections
• Patient population includes MedSurg, Cardiac, IDDM, COPD, Trauma, Ortho, ENT, Urology, and pain management cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-6 on the floor, with potential shift to 1:4
• High frequency of patient turning, approximately 10-12 per day
• RNs must be able to titrate drips in stepdown and administer Heparin gtts on the floor
• Telemetry monitoring is used with dedicated tele techs; RNs must be able to read and interpret strips
• Charge Nurse on every shift with 24/7 in-house House Supervisor support
• Nurse aide support available at a 3-4 to 31 patient ratio
• Respiratory Therapy in-house 24/7; unit does not use ventilators
• 12-hour night shifts from 7p-7:30a
• Schedule includes every other weekend (EOW) requirement
• Uses EPIC EMR system
• Holiday coverage may be required as scheduled
• Provide direct patient care in a stepdown and medical-surgical floor setting with telemetry monitoring
• Scrub color requirement: Royal Blue
• Previous permanent employees must have a 2-year break before reapplying
• Previous travelers who completed a full year must take a 2-year break before returning
• Travelers are limited to working within the WVU system for no longer than one year cumulatively before requiring a 2-year break
