American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry unit requiring strong strip-reading skills and a WV or compact RN license.

Work on a 43-bed unit with a 1:5 patient ratio, read telemetry strips, and titrate Heparin. Requires 2+ years RN experience, BLS/ACLS, EPIC EMR, and ability to float to ICU/Stepdown. Travel perks included; travel screened candidates only, with orientation and support.

Responsibilities

• Work on a 43-bed semi-private Cardiac Telemetry unit with 9-10 private rooms.
• Average patient ratio of 1:5, flexing up to 1:6 as needed.
• Read telemetry strips and monitor post heart cath, CHF, arrhythmias, and other cardiac cases.
• Titrate Heparin; occasional Lasix or Bumex; not Cardizem or Amiodarone.
• Unit serves as central monitor station for the North Tower with EPIC EMR.
• 12-hour day shifts (0700-1930); self-scheduling with block scheduling when possible.
• Travelers may be required to float to ICU or Stepdown and cover admissions/discharges.
• Unit orientation includes 1 day of computer training followed by shadowing.
• First-time travelers and new grads welcome; 50-mile radius rule applies.
• Charge Nurse coverage is available 24/7; call or standby possible if census is low.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry unit requiring strong strip-reading skills and a WV or compact RN license.

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
• Must be able to read telemetry strips and manage cardiac patients confidently
• Experience titrating Heparin drips required
• Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Work on a 43-bed semi-private Cardiac Telemetry unit, with 9-10 private rooms
• Average patient ratio of 1:5, flexing up to 1:6 as needed
• Patient population includes post heart caths, TR Bands, CHF, COPD, post pacers (no external pacers), arrhythmias, and patients awaiting CABG consult
• RNs titrate Heparin and occasionally Lasix or Bumex, but not Cardizem or Amiodarone
• Unit serves as the central monitor station for the entire North Tower; RNs must be able to read telemetry strips
• Occasional use of High Flow, BiPAP, and CPAP for supportive therapy only
• PCTs support the unit with ADLs, FSBS, and EKGs, though RNs must be able to perform EKGs when needed
• 12-hour day shifts (0700-1930), self-scheduling available with block scheduling accommodated when possible
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend for travelers (Sat/Sun for days)
• Floating required to other units within skillset, including rare float to ICU or Stepdown
• EPIC EMR used
• RNs perform their own admissions and discharges in a fast-paced environment averaging 8-12 admissions and discharges per day
• Strong teamwork culture with staff regularly assisting one another, plus support from a unit clerk
• Charge Nurse coverage is available 24/7, though charge nurses may take a patient assignment if needed; travelers comfortable with charge duties may be considered
• Rare call or standby requirement possible if census is low
• Unit orientation includes 1 day of computer training followed by 1 day of shadowing with a preceptor
• Unit is experienced in training new grads and offers a supportive learning environment
• Scrub color is Royal Blue; scrub jackets permitted but hoodies or sweat-jackets are not allowed
• First-time travelers and new grads are welcome to apply
• Local candidates not accepted; must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Candidates who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year without taking a 2-year break
