Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Medical ICU RN for a hospital-based assignment in Ohio. The role requires at least 2 years MICU experience, Epic proficiency, BLS/ACLS/NIHSS, and an OH RN license.

Candidates must be skilled in telemetry, ventilator management, IV starts, and continuous IV sedation, and comfortable with multisystem organ dysfunction cases. Typical shifts are 3x12s (36 hours/week) with day/night rotation, and local candidates receive priority.

Qualifications

  • Active OH or compact RN license required at time of consideration.
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical ICU experience required.
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (AHA certifications only).
  • Epic charting system experience required.
  • Proficient in IV starts.
  • Experience with telemetry and cardiac monitoring, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
  • Competency with ventilator management and care of ventilated patients.
  • Experience managing patients on continuous IV sedation.
  • Experience managing multisystem organ dysfunction/failure.
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program.
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN reference is acceptable for the second; coworker references not accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) of a hospital setting.
  • Patient ratios of approximately 1:1-2.
  • Manage complex cases including multisystem organ failure, respiratory failure, COVID, sepsis, post-cardiac arrest, DKA, liver failure, and renal failure.
  • Utilize specialized equipment such as NxStage CRRT, Alaris IV pumps, GE cardiac monitors, GE ventilators, and boom lifts in patient rooms.
  • Perform continuous glucose monitoring for hyperglycemia management.
  • Manage externalized IV pumps for COVID-positive patients.
  • 3x12-hour shifts totaling 36 hours per week, rotating between day and night shifts every 4 weeks.
  • Day shift hours 7:00 AM-7:30 PM, night shift hours 7:00 PM-7:30 AM.
  • Epic EMR experience required.
  • Provide direct patient care within a high-acuity Medical ICU environment.
  • Complete Ohio fingerprinting process urgently upon signing contract; candidates within driving distance of Ohio must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet.
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate.
  • Former employees eligible for a travel assignment only after being away from the facility for 6 months or more.
  • Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible for travel assignments.
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less.
  • First-time travelers are not specifically required, though prior travel experience is preferred.
