Job summary

Magnet Medical is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) in Labor & Delivery for Lees Summit, Missouri. The role covers labor, delivery, and postpartum care with a focus on high-risk pregnancies and neonatal adaptation. Day shifts, 3x12-hour blocks, for a 13-week contract.

The RN will collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and anesthesiologists to provide safe, compassionate care, including neonatal resuscitation when needed, and thorough documentation in the EHR.

Responsibilities

• Pre-Labor and Admission Assessment: assess health of pregnant women and gather histories.
• Monitor fetal heart tones and uterine activity; NSTs.
• Educate patients on labor, pain management, and childbirth expectations.
• Labor Support and Monitoring: assess contractions, dilation, fetal and maternal vitals.
• Administer medications including epidurals, Pitocin, and monitor effects.
• Provide continuous emotional support and pain management during labor.
• Assist with delivery; instrumentation, suction, birth support.
• Participate in cesarean sections; ensure sterile field, newborn care.
• Perform neonatal resuscitation and initial newborn assessment.
• Postpartum Care: monitor mother and newborn, vitals and bleeding.
• Breastfeeding support and postpartum education.
• Document assessments and progress in EHR.
• Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists.
• Communicate with patients and families about progress and options.
• Infection control and safety in labor, delivery, postpartum areas.
• Manage obstetric emergencies and high-risk pregnancies per protocols.
• Advocate for patient preferences and informed decision-making.
