Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT/CRT) with 1+ year of critical and general care experience for a night shift position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital.

Night shift 3x12 hours (7pm–7am) with some weekend work; float to sister facilities as needed; no on-call requirement. Cerner charting, airway management, and ventilation support are core duties in this travel assignment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in critical care and general care settings.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (NALS for pediatric cases).
• RRT or CRT certification required.
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications must be through the American Heart Association (AHA).
• WV or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted for consideration.
• Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31) unless exemption documented.
• Must complete a fit test in advance with approved mask (may require travel up to 100 miles).
• Minimum 2 Manager and/or Charge Nurse references from past 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Night shift 3x12 hours, 7pm–7am, weekdays with some weekend work.
• Treats adult and/or pediatric patients in critical and general care settings.
• Float to sister facilities as needed within scope of practice.
• Uses Cerner charting system.
• Perform airway management including intubation assist, extubation, and trach care.
• Administer oxygen therapy using bag and mask, ET tube, high flow nasal cannula, and trach collar.
• Manage mechanical ventilation including BiPAP, CPAP, and weaning from ventilation.
• Troubleshoot high pressure ventilator alarms.
• Work within a Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital affiliated with COTH.
• First-time travelers accepted.
• RTO requests must be submitted two weeks prior and approved by manager.
• Former permanent employees must wait 2 years before returning as traveler.
• Current Vandalia Health System employees not eligible for travel contracts.
• Candidiates reside >100 miles for travel rate eligibility; 75-100 miles case-by-case at same rate.
• Free parking garage available for travelers.
• COVID vaccine not required.
