Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for a Level 2 trauma acute care facility in California. This role requires 2–5 years of critical care and prior travel experience, with a 12-hour shift pattern and 24/7 hospitalist/RT coverage.

Active RRT license in CA is required, along with BLS/ACLS/NRP/PALS. Expect to cover ICU and medsurg/ telemetry, with protocol-driven care and travel reimbursements.

Qualifications

• Active RRT license required (state of CA requires RRT; CRT not accepted).
• BLS, ACLS, NRP, and PALS certifications required.
• NPS certification required if working in NICU.
• Minimum 3 years of experience required, with 2-5 years in critical care preferred.
• Travel experience required.
• Cerner EMR experience.
• Black scrub color required.
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting at a 267-bed Level 2 trauma facility.
• Covers ICU and all medsurg/telemetry areas.
• 12-hour day shifts, scheduled 6:00am-6:30pm.
• Every other weekend required.
• Expected to work most holidays.
• First to float, covering all units except NICU.
• Schedules created 3-4 weeks in advance; block scheduling not accommodated.
• Uses Cerner EMR.
• Common diagnoses include COPD, Asthma, PNA, and CHF.
• Duties include breathing treatments, ABGs, EKGs, NIV, HFNC therapy, IPV, and PEP/PAP therapy.
• Utilizes Hamilton, G5, C1, MR1, and Galileo ventilators.
• GE telemetry monitoring system.
• Charge RT coverage 24/7.
• Hospitalist coverage 24/7.
• RT and Pharmacy services available 24/7.
• Facility is strictly protocol driven with Respiratory Therapy Driven Protocols.
• 2-day floor specific orientation provided.
• Work alongside a Charge RT available around the clock.
• Collaborate with in-house Hospitalist coverage 24/7.
• Perform respiratory therapy duties following strict facility protocols.
• First-time travelers may not be considered given the travel experience requirement.
