Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport, as medically prescribed. They evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans while educating patients about procedures and medications, especially upon discharge. Responsibilities include administering routine treatments with ventilatory equipment, oxygen, and aerosol devices, performing chest physiotherapy, suctioning, and monitoring oximetry and capnography according to policy.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various respiratory equipment.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal).
• Monitor and perform assessments like oximetry and capnography.
• Review patient chest x-rays and assist with respiratory-related procedures.
• Perform tracheostomy care and manage insertion/removal of tracheostomy tubes as needed.
• Conduct arterial punctures and assess ventilation efficiency.
• Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Maintain accurate records of treatment and patient response.
• Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding treatment efficiency.
• Ensure routine accuracy of respiratory therapy charging and documentation.

Required Experience

• Proven experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Comprehensive knowledge of respiratory care practices and procedures.

Certifications/Licensure

• Current Respiratory Therapist licensure in the state of Pennsylvania.
• BLS and ACLS certifications are preferred.
