Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a Station Electrician or skilled trades professional to perform maintenance, testing and inspection of energized or de-energized distribution facilities. You will work under supervision levels and assist in emergency response to restore service.

Requires an Associate degree in electrical/mechanical/industrial maintenance or equivalent, willingness to travel over 50%, overtime, and ability to read prints.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in electrical/mechanical/industrial maintenance or equivalent.
• Ability to read prints and drawings.
• Experience with electrical testing equipment.
• Willingness to travel >50% and work overtime, as required.

Responsibilities

• Work on energized equipment up to 260 volts with supervision as described.
• Select proper prints/drawings for work and understand them.
• Use voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, insulation megger and related test equipment.
• Assist in maintenance and repair of station transformers, breakers and rotating machinery.
• Install and maintain station batteries; replace nitrogen bottles and air filters.
• Install conduit, pipe and cable; dig trenches and backfill; install portable substation fences.
• Inspect equipment, read gauges, perform start-run-stop tests on generators and pumps.
• Replace lamps and install signal/communications systems.
• Assist in transformer testing and oil-related tests.
• Assist with station switching and clearance checks.
• Maintain records and participate in training.
