Job summary

The Austin Company seeks a Project Executive to lead design-build initiatives across sectors, managing medium-to-large projects from sales through construction and beyond. The PX acts as the primary client contact, coordinating project teams to deliver committed services and sustain client relationships.

Unaffected by HR reporting lines, the PX oversees design PMs and construction PMs, ensuring projects stay on time, budget, and safety standards while navigating a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience leading design-build projects.
  • Proven track record delivering complex, high-value projects on time and within budget.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Project, and other project management tools.
  • Professional license or certification in engineering, architecture, or construction management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct the project team, including PMs, engineers and superintendents.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and manage complex design-build projects from inception to turnover.
  • Ensure projects meet scope, budget, schedule, quality, and safety standards.
  • Support business development, proposals, presentations, and contract negotiations.
  • Mentor and develop project team, fostering teamwork and excellence.
  • Communicate effectively with client and stakeholders; manage risks and issues.
  • Oversee project controls, schedules, and financial status for senior management.

The Project Executive (PX) serves as the primary point of contact for the client, actively engaged from the project’s inception at sales through completion of construction and beyond. This position is a true design-builder, effectively coordinating, monitoring, and managing project teams on complex projects and ensuring that Austin delivers the services committed to the client. The incumbent must demonstrate a proven ability to manage medium‑to‑large‑sized projects with projected gross revenues ranging from $50 million to over $150 million.

The PX has functional oversight of the Design Project Manager and the Project Manager from a project organization standpoint. However, these positions do not report to the PX on HR-related matters.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in leading and managing design-build projects in various sectors.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex and high-value projects on time, within budget, and with high quality and safety standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Project, and other project management software and tools.
  • A professional license or certification in engineering, architecture, or construction management is preferred.
Travel Required

Must be able to travel to and work at the project site, this travel may be up to 100%. A valid driver’s license is required for this position.

  • Hold extensive expertise in both design and building construction, with hands-on experience in design-build project delivery methods, processes, project controls, financials, schedules, and industry best practices.
  • Oversee the planning, design, engineering, preconstruction, construction, and delivery of design-build projects in various market sectors.
  • Ensure smooth transitions between teams and departments throughout the various project phases, including Sales, Design, Preconstruction, Construction, and the final turnover to the client.
  • Support the business development and marketing activities of the company during proposal preparation, presentation, interviews, and contract negotiations.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to the project team and foster a collaborative and positive work environment and culture of teamwork, innovation, and excellence.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, under pressure, with multiple priorities and stakeholders. Develop and maintain long-term relationships with clients, partners, and industry associations.
  • Ensure project scope, design, budget, schedule, quality, safety, and client satisfaction are all met or associated metrics exceeded.
  • Lead and direct the project team, including the design project manager, construction manager, project manager, project engineer, superintendent, subcontractors, and consultants.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and coordination with the client and other project stakeholders.
  • Identify, mitigate, and resolve project risks, issues, and challenges.
  • Monitor and report on the project progress, performance, and financial status to senior management and clients.
  • Manage and enforce the project contract, terms, and conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and standards related to construction, safety, and environmental protection.
  • Other duties as assigned.
