Job summary

The Austin Company is seeking a Project Manager to lead engineering and construction projects, ensuring design, engineering, and construction meet client needs on time and within budget.

You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage change orders, budgets, and schedules, and maintain strong client relationships across life science projects. Extensive travel and senior-level collaboration are expected.

Qualifications

  • Normally requires a 4-year degree in Construction or related field OR typically 10-15 years’ experience in field construction (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
  • 5 years' experience in the Life Science market sector
  • Schedule experience, well versed in P6, MS Project, and Procore
  • 100 % travel required

Responsibilities

  • Participate in project estimating and proposal preparation to the extent required.
  • Enter all information for AWAs, meeting minutes and change orders in Procore.
  • Define project scope, assist in determining work packages, and develop schedules, and budgets.
  • Have regular contact with the client representative to obtain the more detailed information required to ensure that engineering decisions on project/implementation meet client operational needs and are in line with the contractual scope of work.
  • Establish Austin-client liaison network to keep all interested parties informed of project planning, start date, completion date, and work progress.
  • Document all changes in scope, see that the client understands the consequent changes in cost and time and that the client authorizes the changes, then coordinates all changes between the field, client, Engineering, Purchasing and Accounting.
  • Submit documents to Federal, state, and local authorities for code compliance review and obtain the various permits required.
  • Hold regularly scheduled project progress review meetings to ensure that:
  • - A project contract’s terms, conditions, and specifications are being met.
  • - Project personnel adhere to federal and state regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • - Delays and cost overruns, at best, are entirely avoided, or, at worst, kept to a minimum
  • - Manpower, equipment, materials, and quality problems are recognized for timely intervention and resolution.
  • - On-site supervision maintains staff morale and interacts appropriately with client counterparts.
  • - Ensure that information for progress billing purposes is submitted correctly and on time.
  • - Meet with client management periodically during a project’s term to resolve issues and at a project’s completion to obtain final client approvals.
  • - Maintain a continuing business relationship with major clients as part of ongoing business development efforts.

The Project Manager provides overall management of one or more specific engineering and/or construction projects to ensure that the client receives a facility designed, engineered, and constructed within the scope of the contracts to meet their needs on time and within budget. The Project Manager is the liaison between Austin and the client and coordinates all aspects of the project including engineering, construction and purchasing as well as accounting and estimating. The Project Manager also handles all contractual matters after the engineering and construction contract is signed. This includes processing of change orders, preparing and reviewing the monthly job condition statements and resolving disputes with clients regarding contractual issues. The Project Manager must demonstrate a proven ability to manage medium-to-large-sized projects with projected gross revenues ranging from $50 million to over $150 million
