Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Polysomnographer (Sleep Tech) for a 13-week night shift assignment, requiring 2+ years of sleep study experience and RPSGT, RST, or RRT with SDS credentials. Off-campus sleep clinic setting; 12-hour night shifts 1800-0700.

Pediatric and adult care with housing and travel support provided. Responsibilities include scoring sleep studies, patient preparation, and operating EPIC EMR and Nihon Kohden systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of sleep study experience.
• BLS certification required.
• RPSGT (BRPT), RST (ABSM), or RRT with SDS credentials required.
• License required if applicable.
• Experience with CPAP, BiPAP, O2, and ASV treatment modalities.
• Skilled in PAP mask-fitting and therapeutic respiratory interventions
• Knowledgeable in sleep study procedures including monitoring body position, movements, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rate
• Experience placing and monitoring electrodes, bands, thermistors, and other probes
• Able to explain testing process and answer patient questions

Responsibilities

• Off-campus sleep clinic setting open 6 nights per week
• Sleep Medicine unit with 10 beds
• Averages 8-10 patients per night with 2 patients per tech
• Treats pediatric (age 3+) and adult patients, with pediatric experience preferred but not required
• Pediatric patients with developmental issues require 1:1 care; ages 3-4 also require 1:1
• Patients are mostly ambulatory; non-ambulatory patients must have a companion present
• Common diagnoses include central and obstructive sleep apnea, rule-out narcolepsy, sleep-related movements, and parasomnias
• Patient ratio is 1:2, with 1:1 for ages 3-4
• Uses EPIC EMR and Nihon Kohden Polysmith Sleep System
• 12-hour night shifts from 1800-0700
• No floating required
• No on-call requirements
• Weekend rotation required, potentially every weekend depending on facility needs
• Some holiday nights required, with 50% holiday coverage built into the contract
• Prepares patients for sleep studies, with prep taking approximately 1 hour
• Scores sleep studies overnight
• Works alongside 2-3 other techs with support from a well-tenured staff
• Medical Director and management available by phone at night
• LPN available until 2000 for medication checks; receptionist available until 2000
• AED on site, with 911 called for emergencies
• 24-hour technical support available by phone for equipment issues
• Orientation includes facility NEO and one shift of unit-specific orientation
• Dark gray scrubs required
• Free parking available at the back of the building
• RTO requests go through the manager
• Does not accept first-time travelers
• Requires candidates to live outside a 100-mile radius of the facility
