Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician who travels to nursing homes and rehabs to collect specimens, primarily from geriatric patients. The role includes on-call duties, early mornings, and a need to follow strict safety and HIPAA protocols in a dynamic care environment.

The ideal candidate brings at least one year of phlebotomy experience, a high school diploma or GED, and BLS certification within three months.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.
One year of current Phlebotomy experience.
BLS certification within three months of hire.
Valid Driver’s License and adequate auto insurance.
Clean criminal history.
Experience in blood collection from all patients.
Experience handling and transporting laboratory specimens and knowledge of tests.

Responsibilities

Travel to nursing homes and rehabs within the area to collect specimens.
Perform blood collection for geriatric residents and process specimens.
Follow proper collection protocols: introduce yourself, verify identity, label, transport, and centrifuge.
Provide STAT, scheduled and routine orders.
Verify demographics and insurance information for tests.
Complete administrative paperwork (time and mileage).
Follow laboratory safety procedures and HIPAA guidelines.
Be flexible with schedule and travel to patient locations; on-call duties.
Respond to beeper within 15–30 minutes, arrive within an hour, return samples to lab within 2 hours.
