Job summary

A healthcare services provider seeks a Phlebotomist on a contract basis to support multiple Charleston-area locations, including North Charleston and nearby towns. This float role requires accurate specimen collection and patient care across the network.

The position is full-time, on-site, with a 3-month projected duration and potential for permanent placement. Benefits are available and mileage expenses are covered.

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Requires a minimum of 1 year of experience; minimum qualifications also specify 1+ years of experience.
• Pediatric and geriatric experience required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Clean driving record and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly to patients.
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
• Travel to multiple locations including Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley, SC, Goose Creek, SC, Summerville, SC, and Walterboro, SC
