PICU RN Requirements

• Current RN license in Texas or compact state (compact license accepted)

• Demonstrated ventilator management and pediatric critical care skills
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Completion of New Nurse Orientation within 30 days of hire (for new hires)
• Successful completion of competency validations and annual verifications

Key Responsibilities – Pediatric Critical Care Nurse

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation)
• Provide high‑quality medication administration and treatments per protocol; monitor for side effects and clinical effectiveness
• Manage ventilators and advanced life support equipment; respond to rapid changes in patient condition
• Document patient history, symptoms, treatments, and clinical outcomes accurately in the medical record
• Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families and provide family‑centered care
• Assess education needs and teach patients, families, and caregivers about care plans, discharge planning, and aftercare
• Delegate and assign tasks appropriately to support efficient clinical workflow and patient safety
• Participate in ongoing competency assessments, skills validation, and quality improvement initiatives
