Summary

A Stepdown Registered Nurse provides care to patients who are transitioning from intensive care to medical‑surgical or general inpatient units. These patients require frequent monitoring and specialized nursing interventions. The role includes assessing and managing complex patient needs, administering medications and treatments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, patient‑centered care.

Essential Work Functions

• Monitors and interprets cardiac rhythms, vital signs and other telemetry data to detect abnormalities and respond appropriately
• Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, with a focus on cardiac care
• Prepares equipment and aids physicians during cardiac‑related procedures and examinations
• Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of telemetry patients
• Observes patients, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisors or physicians of patients' cardiac status and response to interventions
• Responds to life‑saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocols specific to cardiac emergencies
• Documents nursing history and physical assessment of assigned telemetry patients
• Initiates patient education plans according to individualized needs, focusing on cardiac health, risk factors and lifestyle modifications
• Collab​orates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care for telemetry patients
• Maintains patient confidentiality and client privacy
• Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
• Adheres to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines and regulatory standards

Required Essential Skills

• Interpret written instructions, follow verbal instructions and proficiency in PC skills

Physical Abilities

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move equipment (50‑100 pounds), push, pull and bend

Technical/Motor Skills

• Must grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull and move equipment when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment

• Must work under close supervision occasionally and also independently when needed
• Must handle irregular activity schedules occasionally and maintain continuous concentration on detail
