Job Description

The RN in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides intermediate care for patients requiring higher monitoring than in a medical-surgical unit but less than in an ICU. Responsibilities include patient assessment, administering medications, monitoring vital signs and cardiac rhythms, collaborating with healthcare team, educating patients and families, documenting care, ensuring safety and infection control, responding to emergencies, and supporting team efforts to deliver high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and monitor physical and emotional needs.
• Administer medications and treatments, including IVs and blood products.
• Monitor patients with telemetry and other devices, adjusting care as needed.
• Collaborate with healthcare team to develop and implement care plans.
• Educate patients and families about recovery, medications, and lifestyle changes.
• Document all care accurately in electronic health records.
• Follow infection control protocols and respond promptly to emergencies.
• Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives.
