Job summary

TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse OR - Operating Room to fill a 13-week Des Moines, IA assignment with a 36-hour work week. The candidate should have 1–2 years of acute care experience as a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, or RN first assistant.

Comprehensive OR duties include assisting surgeons, pre-/post-op care, and instrument handling. As an OR travel RN, you will be responsible for basic bedside care, medication administration and documentation, and patient education.

Qualifications

• ACLS and BLS certifications are required or preferred.
• 1–2 years of acute care experience as circulating/scrub RN.
• RN First Assistant experience may be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic bedside care.
• Prepare, administer and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions to treatment.
• Serve as the communication liaison between patients' family members and operating team.
• Ensure that the correct procedure is being performed on the correct patient.
• Initiate patient education plan as prescribed by physician; teach patients and families how to manage medication and home care needs.
