Job Summary

Operating Room (OR) Nurse in a Level I trauma acute care hospital. This position involves providing perioperative patient care across various surgical specialties, excluding cardiovascular procedures, within a 23-room facility. The role requires experience in general surgery and trauma cases, adhering to all clinical safety standards.

Job Details

• Certifications: BLS, CNOR, CST; active Illinois license in hand or in application process required
• Experience Requirement: Minimum 3 years' experience in operating room nursing; level I trauma experience required
• Location Requirement: Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to apply
• Schedule: Days shift, 8 hours per shift, 40 hours/week, starting 11/30/2026 and ending 03/01/2027
• Required Skills & Experience:
  • General OR experiences including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair inguinal/umbilical, laparoscopic assisted procedures, mastectomy, thyroidectomy partial/total, Whipple procedure
  • Trauma skills such as amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, multiple injuries from motor vehicle accidents
  • Neuro procedures including cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion
  • Orthopedic procedures like arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, fracture reductions
  • Plastic surgery including free flap microvascular procedures
  • Urology skills such as cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy
  • Emergency management including code response, fire safety, latex allergy, malignant hyperthermia
  • Equipment/instrumentation experience with electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources, Hana tables
  • Knowledge of blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling, universal protocol, urinary catheterization
• Additional:
  • On-call: Yes, 1/week no longer frequent
  • Float: Float rotation may be required within skill set
  • Open to accommodating block schedule: No
  • Open to first-time travelers: No
  • Special procedures: All service lines except cardiovascular, with experience in bariatric, neurology, orthopedic, plastic, transplant, and urology cases
  • Orientation hours: 40 hours, virtual at-home on day 1
  • Submission requirements: SSN and DOB, interview availability, RTO/SD confirmations, active license, background disclosure, compliance with module completion
