Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Neuro RN for a night shift assignment in Charlottesville, VA. Requires BLS, NIHSS, Epic experience, and an active VA or compact RN license. 13-week assignment with 4x12 hour nights and potential 36/48 hour weeks.

Unit focuses on Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery with patient ratios around 1:4. Holidays and travel policies apply; orientation modules provided upon onboarding.

Qualifications

• Active VA or compact RN license; in-hand by start date.
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required.
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience.
• Epic charting experience required.
• BSN preferred.
• Experience in neurological/psychiatric care, CVA, neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury.
• Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, and peripheral line care.
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and rapid response/code team protocols.
• Experience with respiratory care including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and oral suctioning.
• Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE.
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and medication administration including heparin, insulin, and PCA.
• Experience with ortho trauma and surgical drain management.

Responsibilities

• Care for a 30-bed Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery unit.
• Patient ratio of 1:4.
• Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-07:00), with options for 36 or 48 hour weeks.
• 13-week assignment.
• Every other weekend required.
• Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays.
• Float per facility float policy within scope of practice.
• Provide direct patient care to neurosurgical and ENT patients in an acute setting.
• Max 40 hours RTO approved per 13-week contract; disclose prior to submission.
• Christmas RTO cannot be approved.
• Disclose any vacation time between sign date and start date to determine start date.
• Selected units have a 50-mile travel restriction; this unit is not listed among excluded units.
• Specialty-specific orientation modules completed during onboarding.
• First-time travelers are not required to have prior travel experience.
