Job summary

Summit Spine & Joint Centers in the United States seeks a Medical Assistant to chart in the EMR, relay referrals, and support clinical duties. The role covers region 14 clinic locations with potential changes based on needs. Travel to other locations is expected as part of the job.

Qualifications

• Experience using EClinicalWorks or other EMR systems preferred.
• 1-year clinical experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and other pertinent information as required by the department.
• Record information in patient charts.
• Reviews medication with patients and charts all allergies, surgeries, family history, past medical history and social history of the patient.
• Assist with providing educational information and after care instructions during or after visit.
• Gather appropriate documents or signatures necessary to assist the provider in treatment decisions.
• Gather incoming records and ensure that it is recorded in the patient chart at time of the visit.
• Knowledge of basic office equipment (phone, fax, scanner copy machine).
• Relays clinical instructions/orders to the pharmacy via computer, phone or fax.
• Ensures the exam rooms are clean, stocked, and appropriately set up each day prior to patient visits.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Must be able to exercise diplomacy and tact to provide excellent customer service for patients; protect confidentiality and privacy per HIPAA.
• Able to use customer service principles to deal with patients calmly.
• Must multitask and handle other duties as assigned.
• Relay messages to physicians and return calls to patients.
• Communicate professionally, respectfully, and effectively with patients, visitors, clinicians, coworkers, vendors even in busy or stressful circumstances.
• Maintain professional composure and perform assigned duties; manage routine workplace stressors; use de-escalation procedures when appropriate.
• Exercise sound judgment; protect confidential information; address concerns through supervisory and safety procedures.
