Job summary

TalentBurst is seeking a Night Shift RN with med-surg experience for a 13-week contract at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, KS. The role covers a Surgical Specialty Unit with 20 beds, 4:1 patient ratio, and 12-hour shifts (7P-7A) with on-site assignments.

Ideal candidates have post-operative care experience, BLS certification, and comfort with ostomy care, IV starts, and telemetry. This is a fast-paced unit requiring strong team collaboration.

Qualifications

• Must have med-surg experience.
• Advanced skills: understanding of post-operative care.
• Procedures performed on unit: ostomy management, ostomy irrigation, NGT placement and management, Foley catheter placement and maintenance, central line management, JP drains, wound management, IV starts, blood administration, nutritional supplementation including but not limited to TPN, G/J tubes.
• Certifications Required: BLS

Responsibilities

• Night shift RN in a fast-paced 20-bed Surgical Specialty Unit.
• Collaborate with techs and unit schedulers to ensure smooth nursing coverage.
• Administer medications, monitor telemetry, IVs, and patient status; document care.
• Support postoperative patients and ostomy care as needed.

Unit Specifics:

• Number of Beds : 20 private
• Patient Ratios : 4:1 total patient care, 5:1 w/ a patient care tech
• Unit staffing description- (unit secretaries and tech availability) : 1 tech usually 4-5 nurses on the floor
• Type of equipment : Alaris IV Pumps, CADD epidural, Alaris PC A, Pyxis Medication Dispensing Machine, telemetry, EKG, bladder scanner, wound vacs, capnostream machines, SCD Pumps
• Documentation system: Medi tech
• Scheduling requirements: Every 3 rd weekend, two Mondays and Fridays per 4 week scheduling period
• On Call Requirements:
• Floating policy: To like medical/surgical/telemetry units including ortho neuro center, med/tele, 4N, CDU Patient Experience requirements: high paced unit
• Certifications: Center of Excellence in Colorectal and Robotics, MBSAQIP certified in Bariatric surgery
