Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Hospice position in Texas with outpatient hospice experience and a valid TX license. The role requires BLS, a driver's license, and a minimum of 2 years in outpatient hospice care.

The position features a Fri-Sun 3x12-hour day shift (10:00-22:00) with on-call duties shared between two RNs. Onsite drug screening applies and travel considerations may be involved.

Qualifications

• Active TX or compact RN license required.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Minimum 2 years of outpatient hospice experience required.
• Skilled in medication administration and pain management, including use of the WHO Analgesic Ladder and pain scales.
• Experience with symptom assessment and management (e.g., altered mental status, nausea/vomiting, pressure ulcers).
• Experience with end of life care including death pronouncement and postmortem care.
• Knowledge of ethical/legal issues including advanced directives.
• Experience with clinical documentation of hospice eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Home Health/Hospice work setting.
• Friday to Sunday schedule, 3x12-hour day shifts (10:00-22:00).
• On-call required, shared between 2 RNs each night with possible triage calls or visits.
• Charting system experience with Altera preferred but not required.
• Provide direct patient and family education, support, and goal-setting as part of hospice care.
• Perform intake assessments and interviews for new hospice patients.
• Must be available to complete required lab work within 72 hours of accepting the offer or provide a completion plan.
• Facility conducts its own onsite drug screening, including marijuana testing, and a positive result results in automatic cancellation.
• Candidates should avoid any substances, including CBD products, that could result in a positive drug screen upon arrival.
• Previous permanent staff must have a 1-year gap in employment before returning as a traveler.
• Must reside within 150 miles of the facility for RN/LVN roles.
• Local candidates are not accepted for this position.
• Travel experience preferred but not required.
