Job summary

Penn State Hershey Medical Center, part of Penn State Health, offers a Summer Nurse Externship for nursing students in their final year. The 10-week program runs May 17 to July 24, 2027, beginning with a two-week orientation that blends classroom and clinical components.

The extern works under an RN, performing basic bedside care, selected procedures, and learning physical assessment and routine care skills in a 24-bed trauma/surgical unit.

Qualifications

• Nursing student in final year of an accredited Nursing Program with at least one clinical rotation.
• Graduate Nurse without Boards required.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic bedside care and select nursing procedures under RN supervision.
• Learn physical assessment skills and routine care tasks with an RN partner.
• Participate in two-week orientation and classroom/clinical components.
