Job summary

Penn State Hershey Medical Center invites nursing students entering their final year to apply for the Summer Nurse Externship in Acute Care. This 10-week program begins with a two-week orientation combining classroom and clinical components, where externs perform basic bedside care and select nursing procedures under an RN mentor.

Assigned to a 47-bed acute care unit serving multiple surgical specialties, externs gain hands-on experience in physical assessment, daily care, safety, and hygiene

Qualifications

• Nursing student in final year of an accredited nursing program or a graduate nurse without boards.
• Must have at least one clinical rotation prior to externship.

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic bedside care under supervision.
• Learn and perform routine nursing procedures with oversight.
• Partner with an RN to develop assessment skills and care techniques.
