Job summary

Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center is offering a Summer Nurse Externship in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit for 10 weeks (May 17 – July 24, 2027). The extern works alongside an RN, performing basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures during the clinical rotation.

The program emphasizes learning physical assessment skills and basic care tasks, tailored for nursing students entering their final year of an accredited program.

Qualifications

• Nursing student in final year of an accredited Nursing Program and one clinical rotation, or a Graduate Nurse without Boards required.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic bedside care under RN supervision.
• Learn and demonstrate physical assessment skills and routine nursing procedures.
• Assist with safety, bathing, and hygiene activities under supervision.
