Job Summary

Under indirect supervision, provides and manages direct medical evaluation, diagnosis, procedures, and care for patients within a recognized area of practice, or for a specified patient population

Core Job Responsibilities
  • Provide general, trauma and surgical critical care services to Hospital’s patients.
  • Provide continuous coverage of trauma and general surgical services in rotation with other physicians participating in the service.
  • Maintain an office, hospital, and surgical schedule consistent with the needs of patients and the scope of the duties to be performed, which shall include sufficient time for administrative functions.
  • Participate in coverage/call arrangements with other physicians as reasonably determined by Hospital and Physician and in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws, to ensure adequate coverage for Hospital’s surgical patients and provide on-call services for the Hospital’s Emergency Department as necessary to ensure full-time trauma and general surgical coverage for Hospital’s patients.
  • Work as a member of the General Surgery teaching Faculty and supervise, mentor and teach residents in accordance with ACGME /MVHS GME rules and regulations.
  • Act as the collaborating physician for Hospital’s employed nurse practitioner(s) and/or supervising physician for Hospital’s employed physician assistant(s) and/or for nurse practitioners or physician assistants employed by Hospital.
  • Participate in the education of resident physicians, medical students, and other learners in support of Hospital’s residency programs and other graduate and post-graduate medical education programs.
  • Perform such other administrative functions as Hospital may reasonably require.
  • Provider will perform Trauma Call coverage at the direction of the Trauma Medical Director.
Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) and successful completion of a residency and internship.
  • Experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, which may include residency in a directly related medical specialty.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise.
  • Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Current NYS Certification/Licensure
  • Federal DEA Certification
  • Board certified or Board Eligible in Specified Area of Medical Specialty, Medical Specialty License or Certification if applicable
  • Physician must maintain the following:
  • Board certified or board eligible in primary specialty
  • Maintain board certification in critical care medicine
  • ACLS Certification
  • ATLS Certification
  • Medical Staff CME requirements
