Position Title:

Trauma Registrar - University of Oklahoma Medical Center

Department:

Job Description:

The Trauma Registrar is responsible for reviewing and analyzing data within the medical record and trauma care reports to ensure comprehensive quality care and identify performance gaps.

Location:

This position may be performed remotely from the following locations within the United States: Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Review reports and charts for qualifying trauma patients based on American College of Surgeons and Oklahoma State Department of Health inclusion criteria.
  • Code and report treatment cases using ICD-10 CM and Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS).
  • Review care provided to identify variations in process or outcomes.
  • Manage data, perform case findings, abstract data, retrieve data, and analyze.
  • Ensure registry functions adhere to guidelines from the American College of Surgeons, NTDB, and TQIP.
  • Report statistics to physicians, administration, and outside agencies upon request.
  • Assist with information related to the Trauma Registry.
  • Meet guidelines for record completion in the Trauma Registry.
  • Participate in inter-rater validation of abstracted records.
General Responsibilities:
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management required; equivalent education or experience in coding, abstracting, or emergency room activities may be considered.

Experience: At least one year of trauma registrar experience for fully remote positions.

Certifications: Must attend or have attended within 2 years of hire: American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registrar Course or equivalent, Injury Scaling Course by the Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine, and ICD-10 Coding Course. ICD-10 Coding Course renewal every 5 years beginning September 2023.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of medical terminology and utilization of Electronic Medical Records.
  • Knowledge of trauma registry principles, medical records, and policies.
  • Familiarity with indexing, classification, and staging systems.
  • Knowledge of trauma-related medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Database management skills, especially in abstracting and coding trauma data.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Good computer and interpersonal skills.
