Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a detail-oriented data abstractor for the Trauma Center to perform chart abstraction, data entry into the trauma registry, and statistical reporting aligned with performance improvement and regulatory standards. You will extract data from the EMR, validate the work of fellow registrars, and support a collaborative Trauma Service team in a fast-paced environment.

Education: high school diploma or GED; associate degree preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required; 2-year/associate degree preferred.
• HIM, RHIT, Coding knowledge or coursework is advantageous.
• NH Trauma Centers: AIS Coding Course within 12 months; Trauma Registrar Course within 12 months; ICD10 Course within 1 year; CE hours annually.

What We Offer

Responsible for chart abstraction and data entry for the Trauma Center. Performs data abstraction and collection from the electronic medical record, data entry into the trauma database, and statistical data reporting of all trauma patients. Works collaboratively with Trauma Service staff to maintain efficient data reporting, support performance improvement initiatives, and ensure regulatory compliance with trauma standards.

What You'll Do

This position will be responsible for extracting data and inputting that data into registry. This position is also responsible for validating the work of other registrars.

What We're Looking For

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree, preferred. HIM, RHIT, Coding. NH Trauma Centers Only: AIS Coding Course within 12 months of hire, required. NH Trauma Centers Only: Trauma Registrar Course within 12 months of hire, required. NH Trauma Centers Only: ICD10 Course within 1 year of hire, required. Continuing Education - NH Trauma Centers Only: Minimum 12 hours annually, required.
• Experience: 1 year Trauma Registry or other health related experience such as: LPN, EMT, CNA, RHIT, or Medical Coder, preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: NH Trauma Centers Only: Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAAISS) Certification, preferred. Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR), preferred. Registered Health Information Certification (RHIT), preferred. Any of the following certifications: Certified Professional Coder Certification (CPC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), preferred.
• Additional Skills (required): Medical terminology. Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Basic data entry and computer skills. Ability to work in a team setting
• Additional Skills (preferred): Knowledge of AIS Injury coding. Knowledge of ICD10 coding. Previous use of EPIC electronic medical record system.
