Overview

The Trauma Registrar Tier I is responsible for data collection, data entry, and reporting in the trauma registry. This position ensures accuracy and confidentiality in handling all trauma registry-related matters. The Trauma Registrar Tier I supports the Trauma Program by maintaining the trauma registry and utilizing clinical and financial databases to identify opportunities for improvement. The role focuses on performance improvement, with the goal of enhancing patient care and the financial viability of the program.

Overview

The Trauma Registrar Tier I is responsible for data collection, data entry, and reporting in the trauma registry. This position ensures accuracy and confidentiality in handling all trauma registry-related matters. The Trauma Registrar Tier I supports the Trauma Program by maintaining the trauma registry and utilizing clinical and financial databases to identify opportunities for improvement. The role focuses on performance improvement, with the goal of enhancing patient care and the financial viability of the program.

Responsibilities

Adheres to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building by following hospital policies and procedures, contributing to the overall quality of service and assuming responsibility for keeping informed about changes in policies and procedures.

Maintains a comprehensive listing of trauma patients.

Ensures accuracy of the trauma registry data by abstracting the patient’s chart for trauma registry data points in a timely manner, assigning codes for diagnoses and procedures pertinent to the patient’s visit by utilizing the ICD-10 CM classification system, entering accurately into computer trauma patient data, ensuring the maintenance of the trauma registry database through frequent data back up, and collecting additional data as requested by the TMD and/or TPM.

Maintains documentation and accurate records of the trauma registry activity by conducting data cleaning and data validation.

Assist in trauma service activities including assisting and preparing monthly and quarterly reports.

Attending monthly trauma system meetings.

Participates in professional development to assure skills and knowledge of trauma data information.

Demonstrates effective communication methos and skills, using lines of authority appropriately by formulating and using effective working relationships with all department staff, patients, families, and others, by maintaining confidentiality with all information in the appropriate manner, and establishing and maintaining continue communication between staff via written and verbal means.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Associate’s degree in health-related field required.

Bachelor’s degree in health-related field preferred.

Paramedic licensed in the State of Michigan is preferred.

Experience In Trauma Registry Is Preferred

Trauma Registrar Certification is preferred.

Maintain current with trauma related continuing education (CE) to meet the ACS Standard 4.34 specifies that every trauma registrar must earn at least 24 hours of trauma-related continuing education (CE) credit during each three-year verification cycle. A minimum of 8 hours of this CE must be earned during the reporting period for centers undergoing a consultation or an initial review.

ACS Standard 4.33 mandates that registry staff complete an Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) training course through AAAM, a trauma registry course, and an ICD-10 course or obtained within 1 year of hire.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Working knowledge of database design and interfacing between EPIC and the trauma registry.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology is essential.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel is preferred.

Critical thinking skills for data analysis and interpretation.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
