Description

Summary: Operational responsibility for the Norwalk Hospital Trauma Registry, including data collection on all trauma patients, downloading data to the State of CT central repository, abstracting patient records, coding, and generating reports.

Responsibilities

1. Data collection: Collects and screens pertinent patient data for Trauma Registry; extracts data from medical records to enter into the Registry.
2. Data entry: Enters trauma data into the registry, ensures accuracy, maintains backups, and ensures confidentiality within mandated time frames.
3. Data analysis: Prepares routine, statistical, and narrative reports; responds to trauma queries; identifies variances from ACS criteria.
4. Administrative support: Prepares and distributes correspondence and information; processes incoming communications; maintains data quality standards; represents hospital at state functions.
5. Computer skills: Demonstrates proficiency in Word, Excel, Cerner, Docutree, PowerPoint; maintains databases; uses correct grammar, punctuation, and medical terminology.
6. Professional growth: Participates in continuing education and professional activities.
7. Communication: Maintains open communication with Department of Surgery clients; liaises with DI Collector vendor.
8. Performs other duties as assigned and fulfills all compliance responsibilities.

• Experience: 0-6 months; knowledge of ICD-9 coding and registry experience preferred.
• Skills: Strong computer skills, data entry, word processing, query creation, excellent communication skills.
• Desired: Knowledge of CT Trauma system, previous data/research experience.
