Job summary

University of Iowa's Trauma Program seeks a Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator to monitor quality outcomes, support analysis and reporting, and drive system/patient care improvements for the trauma population. You will promote evidence-based practice, reduce errors, and support patient safety across the enterprise.

This 100% FTE, 40-hour/week role is based on our UI Main campus in Iowa City. Applicants should have a nursing license in Iowa and 3–5 years in a trauma setting, with EMR and

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent education/experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of nursing experience in a trauma-based setting.
  • Current license to practice professional nursing in the state of Iowa.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and reporting functions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

Responsibilities

  • Identify clinical outcomes and process compliance trends/opportunities; prioritize improvements.
  • Conduct systematic review and analysis of safety event reviews, root cause analyses, and quality data.
  • Identify risks and trends; prioritize action plans; oversee development of interventions and evaluate improvements.
  • Collaborate with Trauma Program leadership to support interdisciplinary teams and improve patient safety.
  • Mentor and train clinical staff to collect, trend, and analyze data for ongoing monitoring.
  • Provide guidance to physicians, administration, and staff to improve clinical quality and care management.
  • Support the trauma registry and optimize data use for performance improvement and research.
  • Enter quality metrics into the trauma registry and note trends with the Trauma Program Manager.
  • Educate interns, nurses, paramedics, and nursing assistants on trauma guidelines and documentation.
  • Abstract data from Epic and trauma registry; present findings to interdisciplinary trauma staff.
